Dr. Carolyn Messner Appointed as Fellow of the New York Academy of Medicine
CancerCare congratulates Carolyn Messner, DSW, OSW-C, LCSW-R, on her appointment as a Fellow of the New York Academy of Medicine. Dr. Messner is Director of Education and Training at CancerCare.
The New York Academy of Medicine's prestigious Fellows program includes more than 2,000 individuals, elected by their peers, from across the medical and health professions. Working collaboratively across disciplines and specialties, in a tradition of honor and service, the Fellows are organized into 20 diverse sections and groups that address clinical and population health issues facing individuals and communities in New York City and cities around the world.
For four decades, Dr. Messner has presented and published on cancer’s emotional and practical impact on patients, caregivers, and their families. She is a past President of the Association of Oncology Social Work (AOSW), recipient of AOSW’s Oncology Social Worker of the Year Award and longtime instructor at the Silberman School of Social Work at Hunter College in New York City. Dr. Messner is also a member of numerous prestigious professional organizations, and has presented and published extensively throughout the U.S. and internationally.
Dr. Messner is the director of CancerCare’s Connect Education WorkshopsTM, which are one-hour telephone and online workshops featuring the world’s leading cancer experts who present on a wide-range of cancer-related topics.
