Leading Cancer Researchers to be Honored at CancerCare's Annual "Tribute to Our Friends"

National nonprofit CancerCare will honor two nationally recognized leaders in oncology and cancer patient care during its annual “Tribute to Our Friends” awards ceremony, to be held October 27 at CancerCare’s national office in New York City.

Dr. Noopur Raje, MD will receive the CancerCare Physician of the Year Award. Dr. Raje is an associate professor of medicine at Harvard Medical School and is the director of the Center of Multiple Myeloma at Massachusetts General Hospital. Dr. Raje has presented on multiple myeloma topics during CancerCare’s free Connect Education Workshops, which can be listened to live over the telephone or online.

Guadalupe R. Palos, DrPH will receive the inaugural CancerCare Interdisciplinary Award in honor of her outstanding contributions to CancerCare’s Connect Education Workshops. Dr. Palos is the Clinical Research Manager in the Office of Survivorship in the Division of Medical Affairs at The University of Texas M.D. Anderson Cancer Center. Dr. Palos’ career in oncology has included roles as a health educator, clinician in cancer prevention and detection, and researcher in symptom research.

“This year’s honorees truly embody CancerCare’s mission of providing help and hope to anyone affected by a cancer diagnosis,” said CancerCare CEO Helen H. Miller, LCSW. “The knowledge they share through our free workshops can be a tremendous help to many patients who otherwise wouldn’t have access to such expertise.”

CancerCare will also honor the Dan Ferrante Memorial Fund Committee with the Special Fund of the Year Award. The committee was created in memory of Dan Ferrante, who died from lung cancer in 2005, with the goal of raising funds to support people facing cancer. To date, the Dan Ferrante Memorial Fund Committee has raised more than $100,000 in support of CancerCare’s free services for anyone affected by cancer.
