Carolyn Messner of CancerCare Is Awarded National Fellowship for Social Work and Patient Care
New York, NY, March 21, 2011--CancerCare's Carolyn Messner, DSW, will receive a fellowship from the National Academies of Practice, an inter-professional organization of 9 different health care disciplines. Messner is Director of Education and Training for Care, a national nonprofit that provides free, professional services for anyone affected by cancer.
"I'm truly honored to receive this fellowship from the National Academies of Practice," Messner said. "The NAP's workshops and interdisciplinary clinical sessions provide a wealth of new and exciting information that I share with my colleagues at Care so that we can deliver our free services in a way that is most beneficial to the person coping with cancer."
Messner is currently co-chair of the Social Work Academy of the National Academies of Practice, and is a past President of the Association of Oncology Social Work.
"Carolyn is recognized as a leading authority on the psychosocial aspects of a cancer diagnosis," said CancerCare CEO, Helen H. Miller, LCSW. "We are very pleased that the National Academies of Practice will honor her for her outstanding achievements in patient care and social work."
Messner will receive her award at the 2011 National Academies of Practice Annual Meeting on Saturday, March 25 in Arlington, VA.
