CancerCare of Long Island Assumes Leadership Role in National Survivorship Program
Office to Manage Intake Center for Lance Armstrong Foundation and the LIVESTRONG™ SurvivorCare Program
WOODBURY, NY, February 28, 2006--Cancer_Care _of Long Island announced today that it has been chosen to assume a leadership role in a national survivorship program funded by and in partnership with the Lance Armstrong Foundation (LAF). The announcement came in tandem with the honoring of the LAF at CancerCare's Human Services Award Dinner benefiting the national organization.
In this leadership role, CancerCare of Long Island will manage the intake center for phone calls and emails sent to the LAF, many of which are referred to CancerCare as part of the LIVESTRONG™ SurvivorCare program. CancerCare and the LAF together launched LIVESTRONG SurvivorCare in May 2004 to provide people affected by cancer with physical, emotional and practical information and support from the moment of diagnosis to after cancer treatment.

"Not only does it demonstrate the LAF's faith in our excellent client service, but also makes our survivorship services more accessible for Long Island residents who are affected by cancer."
Challenges cancer survivors often face include fear of recurrence, sadness and depression, late and long-term treatment side effects, infertility and health insurance problems and even adjustment to wellness. Today, LAF President and Chief Executive Officer Mitch Stoller will receive the Beacon Award at CancerCare's annual Human Services Award Dinner benefiting the national organization. This award is presented annually to an individual whose organization has had a direct and measurable impact on the services CancerCare provides. In addition to providing support for the LIVESTRONG™ Intake Center, the LAF also helped provide emergency financial assistance to hundreds of CancerCare clients affected by the Gulf Coast Hurricanes.
