Sweet Charity: Duncan Hines® Sponsors Cupcakes for a Cause™ to Benefit CancerCare for Kids®
MOUNTAIN LAKES, NJ, May 14th, 2008--A family favorite for decades, a moist and delicious Duncan Hines cupcake is never really just a cupcake. Duncan Hines, an iconic brand that has been helping families create life's most delicious moments for over 50 years, announces its national sponsorship of the Cupcakes for a Cause™ program, through which all proceeds will benefit CancerCare for Kids®. Duncan Hines will contribute to the program in multiple ways throughout this year to generate fundraising and drive awareness for the program, including a corporate donation and implementation of a national consumer baking contest.
"Duncan Hines has a rich history of creating delicious, meaningful moments for children and families, and so to partner with an organization that works to foster educational programs, counseling, financial assistance, and practical help for kids and families facing cancer is completely synergistic with our brand," said Lora Van Velsor, vice president of Duncan Hines. "We are so proud to sponsor the Cupcakes for a Cause program and align with an organization as important as CancerCare."
Now in its fifth year, all Cupcakes for a Cause initiatives benefit the CancerCare for Kids program, which provides free support services to children affected by cancer and their families. Partnership program elements include the following:
- Encouraging consumers to host their own Cupcakes for a Cause bake sale to raise money for CancerCare for Kids.
- The "Duncan Hines National Bake Sale Contest" to support Cupcakes for a Cause will run from May 15 to November 1, 2008. Duncan Hines has created a micro site that will provide coupons and turn-key kits to consumers who wish to participate.
- Consumers can access the micro site at www.duncanhines.com/cupcakes and can learn more about CancerCare and Cupcakes for a Cause at www.cupcakesforacause.org.
"Cupcakes for a Cause is a great way to do something fun with your family while helping children affected by this illness," said Diane Blum, Executive Director of CancerCare. "Our oncology social workers help children understand cancer, talk about their feelings and become less afraid. We are delighted to have Duncan Hines on board as our corporate partner to increase awareness of our services for children and help more families cope with the challenges that cancer creates."
Sponsoring the Cupcakes for a Cause national bake sale contest is just one of many exciting initiatives for Duncan Hines in 2008. The brand will embark on a multi-million dollar advertising campaign and will also launch its newest and most incredible cake ever, Moist Deluxe Decadent Carrot Cake (word has it it's the best carrot cake you'll ever bake).
